Description
According to the B.C. Ministry of Education Website, “The ability to design, make, acquire, and apply skills and technologies is important in the world today and key in the education of citizens for the future.” Technology is part of our daily fabric, and programming literacy is an important skill, which needs to be fostered and nurtured. Giving students in the primary years an opportunity to explore concepts behind programming helps set the stage for success in learning to code in later years. Developing coding skills in a playful and age appropriate manner is essential, and compliments the philosophy as described in The Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) component of B.C’s New Curriculum. My First Coding Unit will explore ways primary teachers can introduce, develop and help students explore Coding. The second half of this presentation will focus on grades 4- 6 curriculum and a chance to play Coding games.
