Description
Come join me in the Google Salon to give your chrome browser a much needed makeover. Chrome extensions are ways to highlight and brighten up your browser through useful tasks for both teachers and students. Come see how to maximize your workflow and minimize common headaches. Add extensions to turn chrome into an interactive whiteboard, easily add common notes to any assignment, quickly create and share a list of important web links, and so much more. You work hard, let the Google Salon pamper you! With all the new educational tools in today’s marketplace, it becomes a job in itself to identify those tools which will truly benefit our students and our teachers on a consistent basis. As a response I have created a new classroom tested set of Google Chrome extensions which help improve engagement, productivity, communication, and innovation in all areas of study and at all grade levels. Examples of use in a true classroom environment will be provided to show increased motivation and engagement for the student, and helps to provide teachers with tools to increase productivity in their classroom. Multiple by studies by Mayer have shown that students who are engaged with classroom utilizing multimedia components of instruction do better than students who learn through pencil and paper alone. While technology alone will not provide engagement, that is up to the “Pirate” in all of us, technology will provide students a platform to interact with the content of the class rather than just being a consumer of the content. This session is meant to inspire teachers to understand the need for the infusion of engaging tools, while at the same time understand the impact the addition of these tools student's long term growth and classroom productivity. Through this session teachers from all disciplines and grade levels will take away successful classroom tested strategies of engagement and application, and leave eager to make changes to their classroom instantly. Teachers will learn how to use the chrome extensions with other educational tools proven to foster growth and engagement in the classroom. It is imperative that our teachers begin learn the artful balance of engagement and technology to foster the growth of ALL students from ALL backgrounds at ALL levels. This session will include: 1. Introduction to Google Chrome and Extensions 2. A detailed description of each extension and how it can be used by both the teacher and the student. 3. Ideas of how to "AppSmash" these extensions with other programs to create the ultimate lesson.
