Meet Real Life Googlers (virtually) & Code Your COVID Hero
Remember a long, long time ago ...
Before March 2020, school closures and teaching from home ...
When you could easily bring Guest Speakers into your classroom?!
We know it's been a while, but we're bringing back the inspiration, energy and excitment of having a visitor share their experiences with your students.
And we are doing it Toogler-style (Googlers that Teach = Tooglers!).
We've partnered up with our friends at Google Canada to bring you a live-streamed guest visit during Computer Science Education Week!
And, of course, we've got your lesson all planned out:
1. Learn from Tooglers (Teaching Googlers): get to know who they are, what they do and how they use code everyday.
2. Take a virtual tour of the Google Offices: explore the offices, the common spaces and learn what it's like to work for Google!
3. Try out coding for yourself: now that you have learned what you can create with code, it's time to try it. Teachers, don't you worry, we have you covered here as well with a student-friendly, independent coding task for Grade 4 to Grade 8 students.
We're offering this 2-hour event 3 times throughout the week, so sign up for the time that works best for you and your students.

A note on timing: Learning with the Tooglers and the virtual tour of the office is about 60 minutes in length. Then, the reigns will be handed over to EdTechTeam Educators as we help you set-up and learn through the Play & Pause resource (live support available!).
Classroom-Ready Self-Directed Resources
We know you don't have time to vet a coding lesson, set-up instructions for your students and make sure all of the tech works.
There are too many other things going on.
That's why, during Computer Science Education Week, our Play & Pause resource is ready for you and your students. We walk you through, in short videos, how to get up and learning to code.
Best part? This resource is student friendly! Send it to your students, just like a Google Classroom assignment.
You've got questions, we've got answers!
-
What if I teach virtually?
-
What if I teach face-to-face?
-
What do I need?
-
I've never coded before!
-
I'm in a different timezone!
Yes! If you teach your students virtually (or in a hybrid/blended model) this will work for you!
You and your students will join the live-stream lesson from wherever they are.
The Play & Pause resource can be shared via email, Google Classroom or any other learning management system and is student friendly!
Yes! If you teach your students face-to-face this will work for you!
When you receive the live-stream link, show it from your projector so the entire class can experience this together.
The Play & Pause resource can be shared via projector, email, Google Classroom or any other learning management system and is student friendly!
You need three things to join in on these lessons:
- Devices for each of your students (chromebooks, laptops or iPads will work)
- Headphones for each student (as you will be watching videos independently!)
- An internet connection
After you register (and closer to the day), you'll receive a teacher package that has your Play & Pause lesson, links to the live stream and a place where you can ask any questions you have.
Don't worry!
You definitely don't need to be a Computer Scientist to learn in this lesson. Think of us as your guest speak who is stopping by your classroom to teach a lesson. All you need to do it share the links with your students to participate!
