CS Education Week - Minecraft: Education Edition

We're travelling across Canada, virtually, providing free, live, hands-on Minecraft: Education Edition lessons (90 minutes) for you and your students during the Computer Science Education Week! We want to stop by your classroom to share our love of Minecraft: Education Edition with you and your students.

Think about us as your co-teacher for the day!

Each day, we'll be in a different timezone across Canada to facilitate a 90 minute lesson for you!

The lessons will be connected to your Grade 4 to 8 curriulum, and live-streamed to classes across your timezone.

What better way to explore Minecraft: Education Edition than to build buidlings; from placing blocks, to having an eye for design (and, of course, breaking them when you need to make a change). You and your students will design a building!

But this lesson isn't just about building, it's about the math behind these structures too! Students from Grade 4 to Grade 8 will use their constructed buildings and their knowledge of mathematics to solve problems, make decisions and predict the future.

In this afternoon, we bring empathy and compassion into the Minecraft: Education Edition world. Students will use basic coding concepts to help bring two villages together. Students will learn about cooperation and inclusion, and embrace the diversity that makes us all uniquely special.

Inside this lesson, you and your students will discover how computer science, Minecraft: Education Edition and coding bring more than just math and science into your classroom. We'll discover how these tools can help to solve some of the world's toughest challenges.

Yes! If you teacher your students virtually (or in a hybrid/blended model) this will work for you! The lessons are hosted from Teams Live which means all of your students can join in from their own devices and their own locations.

Better yet? The students (and you) can pause the stream at any time to give yourself more time to solve a tech problem or to have a quick break before returning.

You will also get a link to the recorded lesson to use after the day; talk about having a lesson ready to go when you need one.

Yes! If you teacher your students face-to-face this will work for you! Use your teacher computer and project the lesson (from Teams Live) on your classroom screen. Our educator team will be walking you and your students through the lesson each step of the way.

You could even join in on your own device and learn too!

All of the lessons are hosted from Teams Live alllowing you to pause the stream at any time to give your class more time to solve a tech problem or to have a quick break before returning.

You will also get a link to the recorded lesson to use after the day; talk about having a lesson ready to go when you need one.

You need three things to join in on these lessons:

Devices for each of your students (chromebooks, laptops or iPads will work)
Minecraft: Education Edition Licenses (not sure if you have them? Check with your IT team)
An internet connection

Once you are registered, there will be some set-up required, but don't worry, we've made that simple too! You'll receive a teacher package that has your step-by-step instructions on how to get your students signed into Minecraft: Education Edition and ready for the virtual lesson.
